The following is my position on Fiduciary
Duty/Responsibility.
A fiduciary is an individual whom another has placed the
utmost trust and confidence to manage and protect property or money. This is a
relationship wherein one person has an obligation to act for another's benefit.
It is established when the confidence given by one person is actually accepted
by the other person. There are a number of training courses offered by the
Ombudsman, at no cost, oriented toward board members.
They are the following:
- HOA ethics
- New Board Member
- Board Responsibilities
- Hiring Experts
- Bringing Harmony to the Association
- Meetings
- Reserve Study
- Violations
- Elections
In my opinion, it should be mandatory for board members to
take at least one of these courses a month until all are completed. There
should be ample time available for this as we go to
self-management as board members give up day to day duties
to our new General Manager, Sandy Seddon, in managing those aspects of our
association.
