Let
me start by saying I am not in favor of subsidizing a for profit entity. I
believe there are a number of other options available to the association. Here
is the role I believe the board should play, regarding the restaurant, as we
transition to self management.
The
board should be setting the goal, as an example: “To have a food service venue
operational as of January 01, 2017.” Then
the board sets the objectives. An example: “The general manager shall determine
the methodology to explore all food service options available to the
association.” This methodology should include but not be limited to,
determining the type of food served, the days and hours of operation, etc. If
the general manager determines a subsidy from the association is necessary,
then that subsidy would need to be within the budget guidelines for the
calendar year.
The board then would get periodic reports as to the progress of the general manager
achieving the objectives that would lead to the ultimate goal. The
general manager would make its recommendation to the board on what food
service would best serve the association. At that point the board would have a
say as to the choice. It is my position the board should have no involvement in
the search of the proper food vender.
Respectfully,
Barry
Goldstein, 2016 Board Of Director Candidate
